Australian Bookplates and Bookplates of Interest to Australia
Sydney, [The Author], 1950.
Folio, [iv], 283 pages with numerous illustrations plus 61 tipped-in bookplates (22 in colour).
Quarter parchment and papered boards, all edges uncut; boards a little bowed, causing the parchment to split slightly at the foot of the front joint; small light offset tape-stains to the papered sides (one to the spine) and along the leading margin of the flyleaves; a very good copy (internally excellent) with the pictorial dustwrapper unevenly sunned and a little chipped and torn, with small pieces of discoloured tape on the verso, a strip of discoloured tape along the front flap, and a tape-stain along the rear flap, with occasional light surface damage nearby (all of these blemishes result from having clear plastic taped to the dustwrapper some decades ago: this has now been replaced with archival film folded into place, protecting the dustwrapper and acting as a barrier to the old tape residue).
Number 76 of the standard issue of 200 copies signed by the author; a further 100 copies in two deluxe editions were also published. Loosely inserted is a small leaflet listing publications by Barnett, with his postal address stamp on the otherwise blank verso. Provenance: Johannes Larsen, with his small name-stamp on the title page and his pictorial bookplate on the front flap (this Australian bookplate and its artist, M.G. Wood, do not appear in Peake's 'Australian Personal Bookplates').
