A letter signed by Elisa Bonaparte to her brother Napoleon's Minister of War, Henri-Jacques-Guillaume Clarke, Duc de Feltre

Quarto, one page; Florence, 20 August 1812.

Folded for posting; a few minor marks and creases; traces of prior mounting on the verso (including two tiny spots of loss to the blank margins); in very good condition.

After his conquest of Italy, Napoleon appointed his sister Elisa as ruler of a client state in the north-western part of the peninsula. In this official letter, stamped 'Secret' and written soon after the departure of Napoleon on his ill-fated Russian campaign, Elisa informs the French Minister of War of the movements of the Honour Guard of the Grand Duchy of Tuscany.
