A manuscript document signed by Louis Philippe to the French Ambassador to Russia, Prosper de Barante

Quarto (233 × 180 mm), one page; Paris, 8 October 1840.

Fine parchment, with horizontal and vertical folds; traces of prior mounting (including some tape-stains visible on the recto, but clear of the large signature); in decent condition.

Louis Philippe instructs the Ambassador to Russia to attend the opening of the new session of Parliament in Paris after the fall of the second Thiers administration. The document is countersigned by the Garde des Sceaux, Alexandre-François Vivien. Offered with a small pen-and-ink botanical drawing (200 × 125 mm) by the king, signed with Louis Philippe's distinctive initials, beneath the date '7 Janvier 1835'. At the head of the drawing is the inscription 'Hommage du présent dessin du Roi Louis Philippe par le Président des Sauveteurs, Guérin de Tencin', and the inkstamp of the 'Sauveteurs Médaillés ... de la Seine'.
