Original green ribbed cloth lettered and decorated in gilt on the spine, and decorated extensively in blind on the sides; all edges uncut; covers slightly marked and a little bumped at the extremities, with a short closed split near the foot of the front joint; plates and map foxed (as usual), two with unobtrusive tide-marks at the edges, one with some short sealed tears and creases to the edges; scattered light foxing to the text; hinges cracked but firm; a couple of gatherings slightly loose; minor signs of use and age; overall a very good copy.

The account of Hodgkinson's surveying expedition to the Northern Rivers area of New South Wales between 1840 and 1842. Provenance: Samuel Gist Gist [sic], with his armorial bookplate; later, in the library of the notable historian Ida Lee, with a gift inscription to her.
