The Adelphi Edition of the Works of Jane Austen [in seven volumes]

London, Martin Secker, 1923 [first thus].

Small octavo, seven volumes; gilt-decorated light blue cloth, top edges dyed blue, bottom edges uncut; spines (and a thin strip along the leading edge of one front cover) a little sunned; top corners of one volume lightly bumped; endpapers offset; a very good set (and apart from a tiny blemish to the blank leading margin of three consecutive leaves - a trifling production flaw now expertly conserved - internally it is in fine condition).

The set comprises Pride and Prejudice; Sense and Sensibility; Northanger Abbey; Mansfield Park; Emma; Persuasion [and] Lady Susan and The Watsons. Provenance: Sir Edward Wheewall Holden (1885-1947), the influential motor-body builder whose family name became a household word, with his armorial bookplate in five of the seven volumes.
