'The Bystander's' Fragments from France [Number 1]

London, 'The Bystander', ninth edition [circa 1916]/ 1916.

Small folio, 48 pages with 40 full-page cartoons and a double-page centrefold cartoon.

Wrappers with a colour plate mounted on the front cover and advertisements on both sides of the rear; small stain to the top edge, impacting a little on the top margin of the first four leaves; overall, an excellent copy.

Offered with the next six numbered volumes in the series, with the following cover titles: More Fragments from France [Volume 2]; Still More Bystander Fragments from France (Volume 3); The Bystander's Fragments from France (Volume 4); The Bystander's Fragments (Volume 5); The Bystander's Fragments from All the Fronts (Volume 6); and The Bystander's Fragments from France (Volume 7). Basically, they are the mixture as before, with pagination ranging from 36 to 48 pages (inclusive of covers); the fifth and sixth numbers don't have a colour plate mounted on the front cover (both were 'wholly set up and printed in Australia ... by Sands & McDougall' in Melbourne); the condition is uniformly near-fine. An eighth volume was also published: Fragments away from France. [7 items].
