'Dear Jan, We heard of your illness with deep concern from Marjorie Barnard ... I'm sure you will be interested to know that the exhibition opened to a packed gallery and even at this early stage I think it can be accounted a success. Nearly all the large oils have gone and several drawings at what we consider rather fantastic prices. So we feel we can leave for home feeling that the interest and help that has gone into this exhibition by so many people has been justified.' We have not identified Jan, but the exhibition, 'Lloyd Rees: 13 September - 10 October 1973', was held at the New Grafton Gallery in London. The postcard has a small (light oil) stain and a short sealed tear to the top margin, well clear of the handwritten text, and there are a couple of small marks and light creases elsewhere; the overall condition is very good.
