A Liberal Awakening. The LM Story

Leabrook, Investigator Press, 1973.

Octavo, 159 pages with 41 illustrations (many of them portraits from photographs), 2 charts and 6 publicity posters reproduced at the rear.

Two-colour pictorial papered boards a little rubbed, with minimal wear to the ends of the spine; slight adhesion marks to the recto of the rear flyleaf; a very good copy (internally fine).

The 'background to the formation of the Liberal Movement and the rebuilding of Liberalism in South Australia'. Steele Hall, the 36th Premier of South Australia (1968-70) (and later, a senator for South Australia from 1974-77, and federal member for Boothby from 1981-96), was Leader of the Liberal and Country Party in opposition when he resigned in March 1972. This copy has nine signatures on the flyleaf: four of the ten contributors (Steele Hall, Joan Bullock, Martin Cameron, Murray Hill); three MPs who resigned with Hall (John Carnie, John Mathwin, David Tonkin); Pete Adamson and one indecipherable name. Loosely inserted is an interesting letter to the recipient of the book (apparently a nursing sister in an aged-care facility), offering it as a thank-you for her kindness to a friend, and explaining the difficulties in collecting the autographs.
