Mona Vale, Lansdown Slattery and Company, 1978 and 1979 (facsimile edition)/ 1893 to 1901. The first volume of the facsimile edition is the 'Second impression November 1978'.

Octavo, eight volumes, with numerous plates, maps and facsimile documents (some folding, some in colour). The verso of each title page gives a list of facsimile documents not reproduced in this reprint edition; however, transcriptions of these documents appear in the text.

Cloth; an excellent set with the lightly sunned dustwrappers (the first three have protective plastic neatly taped onto them, resulting in a few trifling tape-stains on the endpapers).

'In addition to a complete record of Lieutenant Cook's discovery of Australia, the "Historical Records of NSW" contains all the colony's official correspondence and documents of any consequence relevant to the period 1788 to 1811. All material relevant to Norfolk Island, and what is now Tasmania and Victoria, is also included ... Much of the records are transcripts of the Governor's despatches to the authorities in England, and the replies issued for his guidance and instruction. The Governor wrote fully about the concerns of the settlement, about matters great and small, and almost every event that took place is minutely described. Copies of all Proclamations and Orders issued by the Governor and Military Commander are also included. The series further contains a vast array of miscellaneous material culled from a multitude of sources - private letters and journals, contemporary newspapers and magazines, court records, government reports and statistics, inter-governmental correspondence, and letters and memorials to the Governor' (publisher's blurb). A portfolio of charts to accompany Volume 1, Part 1 (relating to Cook) was published in 1893; this was also produced for this facsimile edition (the text volumes record an 'ISBN for complete set of 9 volumes'), but it is not present with the current set.
