The first intended transcontinental expedition; Central Mount Sturt [Stuart], the geographical centre of Australia was climbed and named on 23 April 1860, but insurmountable problems caused the party to turn back two months later, near the Tennant Creek area. From the original manuscript; the first separate edition in book form, number 57 of only 220 copies.
