Quarto, four volumes, [ii], 226, [4]; [iv], 292, [2]; [iv], 292, [8]; and [iv], 280, [10] pages with numerous illustrations plus 102 small tipped-in textile samples. Bound into Volume 14 is 'Annexe au No. du 20 Avril 1870. Application de la Vapeur au Repassage et Appret des Vetements au Moyen des Tables Lyon' (7 pages plus 4 interesting plates).

Plain binder's wrappers or original printed wrappers (Volume 13 only, with the front cover stained and detached, along with the first two leaves); all edges uncut; minor signs of use and age; essentially a very good group with the contemporary ownership stamp of 'Quatremere Teinturier, a Auxerre, (Yonne)' on each title page.

A French trade journal on fabric printing and dyeing; it first appeared in January 1857. The volumes on offer were published under the direction of Felix Gouillon, with individual issues appearing twice a month. However, Volume 14 covers the two-year period 1870-71. Although the pagination is continuous, there is a hiatus in the dates, with nothing appearing between 5 August 1870 and 1 July 1871, when the Franco-Prussian War, the collapse of the Second French Empire, the Paris Commune and its bloody suppression put paid to any chance of 'business as usual'. Gouillon's lengthy editorials in the above two issues make extremely interesting reading today. [4 items].
