The Overland Telegraph Line. Its Early History

Adelaide, W.K. Thomas & Co., Printers (for the South Australian Institute of Engineers), 1914.

Octavo, 26 pages with 4 full-page illustrations (from photographs) and a map.

Wrappers unevenly sunned and slightly marked; a very good copy.

'In preparing this paper I need hardly tell you that I have obtained many particulars from the Departmental Reports, especially those of the late Sir Charles Todd ... The late Mr R.R. Knuckey, who had charge of Section A in the centre of Australia, gave me very great and valuable assistance in writing the various incidents which occurred during the erection of the line' (introduction). Knuckey's contributions include a four-page account of the 'search for a man called Nation, who was lost in the ranges in the Gulf country' during the course of 'repoling the line, from Providence Knoll to Tennants Creek'. Not in McLaren (it probably should be); Trove records only four copies.
