The author is identified on the last page of text. Dr Henry Evans Maude (1906-2006), British civil servant and anthropologist, was for many years an administrator on various Pacific islands, including the Gilbert and Ellice Islands (now Kiribati and Tuvalu). At the time of compiling this work, he was First Assistant Secretary, Western Pacific High Commission.
