Overlapping two-colour pictorial wrappers slightly creased and a little chipped around the edges; tiny bruise to the bottom edge of the first two leaves; a very good copy (internally excellent).

The attractive cover design is by G.A. Barnes. The calendar for 1919, with noteworthy naval events and nautical quotations by the month. The compilers are father and daughter: Douglas John Byard (1859-1949) was the proprietor and headmaster of Hahndorf College; his daughter May Marion Byard (1882-1967) married Carew Reynell of the famous South Australian winemaking family in 1910. She 'was the originator of the League of Loyal Women and the Battalion Clubs in South Australia. For some months she also ran, at her own expense, a tea house for AIF Light Horsemen at Heliopolis, Egypt. Her husband Lieutenant-Colonel Carew Reynell 9th Australian Light Horse Regiment, was killed in action on 28 August 1915' (Australian War Memorial). Her brother Douglas was also killed in action at Gallipoli; her son Richard (1912-1940), a pilot with the RAF, was killed in action during the Battle of Britain.
