Lawton and Sons, [early 1950s]. Quarto, approximately 170 leaves of duplicate typescript (printed rectos only) plus a printed title leaf, dozens of full-page printed diagrams and plates, and about a dozen tabbed card dividers. Screw-bound quarter cloth and papered boards a little worn, marked and stained; small marginal stain to a handful of leaves front and rear (causing the paper to become brittle and split or tear a little); neat repair to one torn leaf; trifling signs of use; a decent copy. These manuals, from Lawton's now-dispersed archive, come with a thin scrapbook containing proof copies of the printed advertising campaign for Lawton's Fork Lift Trucks by Austin Brown Advertising, Adelaide. It contains four mounted advertisements (roughly A3, A4 and two DL size) and a decorative list of the publications through which they were disseminated. Loosely inserted is some original cartoon artwork (black ink and wash on paper, external dimensions 375 × 275 mm; a little grubby) - 'Operating Instruction No 3: Floors should be in good condition .... never drive over old wooden floors'. It's the one about the forklift, the load of toilet bowls, and the old wooden floor ... [3 items].
