Contemporary half calf and marbled papered boards, the spine gilt-decorated in compartments, with a contrasting title-label; marbled paper rubbed (heavily in spots), and worn along the edges; leather lightly rubbed at the extremities and a little worn at the corner tips; front flyleaf removed; occasional light foxing and minimal signs of use; a very good copy.
Malone, a ship's paymaster, was 'appointed to HMS "Fantome", going to the Australia and New Zealand station . from 1850-53. Having seen all parts of the Australian colonies - having mixed in every society - and having formed an impartial judgment as to their several merits, some little account of the trip . may probably be of use at the present time. I passed nearly two years in the North American Colonies, and have visited the States, and can therefore speak of the Antipodean possessions in relation to them' (preface). Ferguson 12214.
