Item #83559 Geographical Society of Australasia. South Australian Branch. The Parkengees, or Aboriginal Tribes on the Darling River [cover title]. Simpson NEWLAND.

Geographical Society of Australasia. South Australian Branch. The Parkengees, or Aboriginal Tribes on the Darling River [cover title]

Adelaide, H.F. Leader, Government Printer, 1889.

Octavo, 16 pages.

Saddle-stapled title-wrappers; a fine copy.

The last page and a half are a 'Vocabulary of Aboriginals of the Upper Darling', also by Newland. This is a separately-paginated offprint of two articles read before the Geographical Society of Australasia, South Australian Branch, on 29 September 1887 and first published in Volume 2 of the Society's Proceedings. Ferguson 13320 ('Sewn', not stapled). We recently noticed for the first time Ferguson 13320a ('The Same. fo.; pp. 7. N.t.p. Sewn. Copies: P.L. Vic'), an edition we had not seen, nor even heard of, before. Trove makes short work of a solution: the paper was first read before the Society on 29 September 1887; it was then printed in the 'Adelaide Observer' on 3 and 10 December 1887. 13320a comprises uncorrected proofs of these newspaper articles.
