Early half calf with raised bands and contrasting title-labels, without the original wrappers; leather rubbed at the extremities, with some surface loss and crazing to the spine; top third of the rear joint cracked (but still firm); trifling signs of age and use; a very good copy with the pencilled surname 'Cowlishaw' lightly erased from the title page (possibly Leslie Cowlishaw, 1877-1943, physician, medical historian and bibliophile).

The author was a member of the South Australian Mounted Police Force from September 1840 to January 1846. This issue also contains articles on the memorial to Captain Collett Barker (12 pages), the destruction of Stuart's tree at Chambers Bay (6 pages), and recollections of various old SA colonists (27 pages).

This volume is bound together with Volumes 7, 8, 9 and 10 of the Proceedings. Other articles of interest include GELL, John Philip: South Australian Aborigines.
