The Second-Generation Japanese Problem
Stanford, Stanford University Press, 1934.
Octavo, viii, 292 pages.
Cloth bumped at the corners, with minor impact on the corners of the leaves at the front and rear; three leaves creased (once dog-eared); a very good copy.
With the ownership signature (and place and dated 1934-5) of Sir Walter Crocker, his annotations on the rear flyleaf and his occasional marginal pencilling. Crocker spent two years at Stanford from June 1928 as a Fellow of the Commonwealth Fund. He studied demography, specialising (in the second year) on the population of Japan. 'By the time I left Stanford, I had written the draft of a book and I had made arrangements for going to Japan to finish it there on the spot' (from the published memoirs).
