Oxford, Clarendon Press, 1762 [first edition].

Folio, [ii] (title page with errata printed on the verso), viii, [iv] ('advertisement'), 412, [19] (index) pages.

Early full calf relatively recently rebacked in a period style, with a contrasting title-label; corners bumped and a little worn; leather a little scuffed; inner hinges cracked but firm; endpapers foxed and discoloured around the edges by the leather; slight worming to the leading margin of the last thirty leaves; light tidemarks to the top inner corner of some early leaves and the inner margins of the last few leaves; last leaf lightly stained and the last (blank) page a little soiled; trifling signs of use and age; a very good copy with an oval armorial bookplate and signature ('Stradbroke 1827') on the front pastedown.

'The part dealing with Crown law is a highly authoritative exposition of the law relating to treason, homicide, and some other capital offences' (Pargellis and Medley 630). The four-page 'Advertisement. To be placed immediately after the Preface' was produced after the book was published; in it, the author explains how his very recent 'Perusal of Lord Hale's Original MS' brought to light discrepancies with the published version, which had been relied upon in the compilation of the present work.
