A gelatin silver photograph (image size 200x150mm in a contemporary frame 295x245mm) of South Australian aviation identity John Hamilton Buckham (died 1989 aged 84). It is a fine head-and-shoulders portrait complete with scarf and flying cap (with goggles); there is a slightly faded inscription in the bottom right-hand corner: 'With my sincerest regards, Buck'. Undated, but most probably mid-1930s. John Buckham joined the RAAF as a mechanic and was offered a pilot's course in the 1920s. He was chief flying instructor with the (Royal) Aero Club of South Australia from 1934 to 1939; he rejoined the RAAF during the second world war, reaching the rank of Wing Commander. He joined the DCA after the war, was the first airport manager at Moorabbin and ended his working life as airport manager at Parafield
