Bush Medicine. A Practical Handbook for managing Serious Illnesses and Accidents in the Outback

Tennant Creek, Printed and Published by the Author [The Jackhammer Press], [1947 (see below)].

Quarto, [vii], 92, [1] leaves (processed typescript, printed rectos only) with 19 illustrations 'specially drawn for this work by Mr Basil Schmidt, Tennant Creek'.

Loose-leaf cloth-bound screw binder; boards slightly bowed, with a small abrasion to the leading edge of the rear one; an excellent copy.

The first reference to the book in Trove appears in 'The Centralian Advocate' on Saturday, 8 November 1947. A rare book: Trove records only two copies, in NT institutional libraries, with the following potted biography: 'Victor H. Webster (1905-1980) was an Australian politician and medical officer. Trained in Melbourne and Perth, he moved to Tennant Creek. He was a member of the Northern Territory Legislative Council for Tennant Creek from 1947 to 1950. He published a book, "Bush Medicine", in 1948 [sic]'. This bald account of his life and work should be replaced with the far more entertaining and informative article by C.C. Eagar that appeared in the Melbourne 'Herald' on Wednesday 15 June 1949, under the headline 'Dr Webster versus officialdom'. Section VI of this work is 'Some Remarks on Sickness in Natives'.
