Patrolling in Papua

London, Fisher Unwin, July 1923 (second impression)/ April 1923.

Octavo, 287 pages plus 41 plates and a folding map.

Cloth lightly marked, and a little rubbed and bumped at the extremities; endpapers offset; leading edge of one plate lightly creased and nicked (detached at some stage, now reinserted); an excellent copy with the dustwrapper chipped with minor loss (now laid down on thin cloth matching the original paper colour and that of the book cloth).

The dustwrapper is printed on acidic paper, with a tendency to brittleness; surviving examples in any state must be rare. 'With twenty-five natives, most of whom were persons convicted of cannibalism, the author, without a white companion, made a journey right across the great Island' in 1917-18. J.H.P. Murray, then Lieutenant-Governor and Chief Judicial Officer of Papua, has contributed an informative nine-page introduction.
