Item #147035 Disgrace. J. M COETZEE.

Disgrace

London, Secker & Warburg, 1999 (first edition, uncorrected proof copy).

Octavo, [iv], 220 pages.

Colour-pictorial card covers slightly creased; paper a little tanned; a few minor signs of handling; an excellent copy.

Signed by the author on the title page, and with a loosely-inserted autograph note signed by him prior to the date of publication: '18/6/99 | Dear Catherine, I'd be grateful if I could have this back in due course. Regards, John'. 'A Secker & Warburg Uncorrected Proof' is printed across the foot of the front cover; the rear cover gives a provisional publication date of July 1999. There is a single pencilled query on page 4, presumably in Catherine's hand (no change was made in the published version).

J.M. Coetzee is the first author to win the Booker Prize twice (in 1983, and in 1999 for this novel); he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2003.
