Pictorial orange cloth lightly marked and rubbed; front top corner bumped, affecting approximately half the text block; free endpapers tanned; tiny light stain to the leading edge and margin of half a dozen later leaves; light dog-ear crease to four leaves; overall, a very good copy (externally in attractive unfaded condition).
First published in the United States some two months earlier under the title 'Three Men and a Maid'. Jasen notes that this is a 'beneficially revised work containing a preface, several added scenes, and a sub-plot not in the American version' (page 81). McIlvaine A28b; Jasen 29a.
