Originally serialized in 'The Captain: A Magazine for Boys and "Old Boys"' (1909-10), the story later appeared in book form in New York in 1912, then in London the same year, both under the title 'The Prince and Betty', but with significant textual differences (in the American version Psmith is simply Rupert Smith!). This is the first edition in its final form. 'In this version the love interest has been dropped and it becomes strictly a novel of adventure with Psmith and Mike Jackson in New York from Cambridge as members of their touring cricket team ...
