Brown cloth lettered in gilt on the front cover and decorated in blind on both sides; all edges gilt; cloth lightly stained and rubbed, with minimal wear to the corners; spine lightly sunned; contemporary gift inscription on the front free endpaper (see below); first and last pages tanned; occasional light foxing; dogear creases to five consecutive top corners; a very good copy.
The title continues with 'The excavations made and relics found at different periods; with a survey & description of the ruins'. The inscription reads 'W. Atkinson to F. Fisher | to remind him of their visit | to the Abbey made on the 25th of June 1879'.
