Papered boards; top edge and the first and last few leaves a little foxed; textblock lightly tanned around the edges; an excellent copy with the fine dustwrapper.
The original prospectus is loosely inserted: quarto, one leaf (creased along the right edge and a little foxed), with the front panel of the dustwrapper reproduced on the recto, and the text on the flaps of the dustwrapper on the verso, along with selected quotes from three reviewers. 'In this book Walsh presents a summary of the data he has collected, and he hypothesizes some of the possibilities, but takes no positive stance. One of the aims of this book is to put all the known material before experts in the respective disciplines and seek their opinions and involvement in solving one of the art world's greatest mysteries.' The fact that it is one of only 1000 copies makes it scarce; the important content makes it much sought-after.
