The Regiment. An Illustrated History of the Uniforms of the British South Africa Police

Salisbury, Zimbabwe, Quest Publishing, 1980.

Quarto, [144] pages with 33 full-page colour illustrations of period uniforms and numerous other colour illustrations (all by the author).

Full leather lettered in gilt on the spine and front cover; prominent raised bands (extending into the sides) ruled in gilt, with inner gilt dentelles; spine slightly scuffed and creased, and lightly sunned; an excellent copy in the slightly marked gilt-decorated slipcase.

The half-title is inscribed and signed by the author 'To my respected elder brother, Philip, with best wishes, Dick. Sept. 1981'. This deluxe edition is limited to 350 numbered copies; this one appears to be H1 (possibly in the spirit of the inscription).

'A history of the police uniforms of Rhodesia from the time of the formation of the Pioneer Column until the present day ... although in theory the British South Africa Police - The Regiment - was founded to maintain law and order in civil society, it has often been called upon to perform in a para-military role; to act as soldiers long ago in the Boer War and now in the present guerilla conflict ... as with its dress, so in its actions, the B.S.A. Police has never been found wanting' (author's preface).
