Red papered boards lettered in gilt on the spine and front panel, all edges speckled red; covers lightly mottled, with a short line in black ink on the spine; endpapers and adjacent leaves a little tanned (with the first and last pages more heavily so); later ownership signature on the front flyleaf; an excellent copy.
The author was 'Late No. 624, Private Original 10th Battalion'. Dornbusch 322; Fielding and O'Neill, page 226; Trigellis-Smith 211 (none of them noting that the first impression binding is lettered in gilt, the more commonly-encountered black lettering denotes the second impression).
