London, Printed for A. Bettesworth, C. Hitch ... and J. Clarke, 1738 (fifth edition)/ [1723].

Octavo, 280 pages with numerous woodcut head- and tailpieces.

Early full parchment with the title in ink on the spine ('C. Nepos cum versio Angl.'); covers a little marked; boards a little bowed; two gatherings misfolded (A and Hh), causing irregular pagination (but complete); light cockling and faint tidemarks near the top margin of much of the text block (generally quite unobtrusive); early ownership signature ('Vögelin's') on the title page, and acquisition details or shelf marks to the initial blanks; a very good copy.

The Latin text with parallel English translation by John Clarke, 'In pursuance of the method of teaching the Latin Tongue, laid down by him in his "Essay upon Education"'.
