Item #131572 Gold and Paper. A History of the National Bank of Australasia Limited. Geoffrey BLAINEY, Geoffrey HUTTON.

Gold and Paper. A History of the National Bank of Australasia Limited

Melbourne, Macmillan, 1983 (revised edition)/ 1958.

Quarto, xvi, 354 pages plus numerous pages of plates (8 in colour) .

Papered boards; an excellent copy with the lightly rubbed and creased dustwrapper.

Offered together with a copy of the 1958 first edition: Melbourne, National Bank of Australasia; quarto, xvi, 430 pages with 50 plates (7 in colour) plus a front endpaper map; cloth a little sunned; a very good copy with the dustwrapper marked, creased and torn. The first edition is essential reading because the original 1958 edition was 'a long book of 430 pages ... I gladly agreed to the suggestion to condense it by about one-fifth and so make room for new chapters [24 to 33, written by Geoffrey Hutton] covering the last quarter of a century. In places I hope the book has been improved, though the detail is sparser' (Blainey's preface to the revised edition). The colour plates have also been revised. [2 items].
