London, C. Dolman, 1839.

Octavo, [ii] (title leaf to Volume VI), 449-466 pages.

Full green morocco, bordered and lettered in gilt, by Sangorski & Sutcliffe; expertly sealed tear to the inner margin of the title leaf; in fine condition.

The reviewer (well-informed but facetious in the extreme) engages almost entirely with James's book, and shares some of his reservations about the planning and organisation of the fledgling colony of South Australia. He concludes: 'Mr James's book exposes all that is evil in the management of the experiment of colonizing on the new plan ... and, in order that both sides may be heard, the reader may consult Mr Stephens's hypercritical and somewhat captious reply'.
