Pomes Penyeach

Paris, Shakespeare and Company, 1927 (first edition).

Sextodecimo (122 × 95 mm), [24] pages (including the initial blank page and the terminal blank leaf) plus an errata slip tipped in on the blank page facing the colophon.

Pale green papered boards lettered in dark green (with slight loss to the last letter of the author's surname); boards slightly bowed, unevenly faded, and a little sunned and marked; first and last (blank) pages unevenly browned; a very good copy (internally near-fine).

This short collection of 13 poems was sold for 1/- (12 pennies) or 12 francs, hence 'Pomes Penyeach' (the thirteenth poem being the 'tilly', the Irish term for the thirteenth item in a 'baker's dozen', and also the title of the first poem).

Slocum and Cahoon 24 (giving a publication date of 5 July 1927). A deluxe issue of thirteen numbered copies on Dutch handmade paper was also produced.
