London, Cassell and Company, Limited, 1901.
Quarto, two volumes bound as one, vi, 480 and ii, 480 pages with hundreds of illustrations plus 19 (of 20) full-page colour plates by A. Fairfax Muckley (it appears that plate 15 was never bound in).
Original half roan and cloth, lettered in gilt on the spine; covers rubbed at the extremities and sunned on the spine, with the cloth a little flecked and bubbled; front endpapers and first blank creased and nibbled damage; occasional light foxing; plates with pencilled instructions to the binder, and some slight wear to the edges (indicating that this copy was bound from the separately-issued parts); a very good copy.
An illustrated dictionary of over 6000 genera of plants, in plain English. With the pictorial bookplate ['Gang forward'] of Edward Charles Stirling on the front pastedown, his tidy ownership stamp to the title-page (and elsewhere).
