London, Faber and Faber Limited, 1972 (new edition, first thus).
Quarto, 466 pages with 186 plates.
Cloth lightly bumped and flecked, with minimal loss near the head of the rear joint; an excellent copy with the slightly marked and creased dustwrapper.
The front flyleaf is inscribed and signed by the author, an authority on medieval buildings. Loosely inserted is an Art Gallery of South Australia newsletter advertising a lecture to be given by Clifton-Taylor in Adelaide in March 1972. Two autograph letters from him are also loosely inserted: the first one, dated 14 April 1972, is a lengthy thank-you for the recent hospitality he received in Adelaide; the second one, dated 16 August 1972, was written on his return to England, and sent with the book. Both letters contain interesting comments about Australian buildings and cities (especially Canberra).
