WRIGHT, Frank Lloyd

A selection of eight plates from 'Ausgeführte Bauten und Entwürfe von Frank Lloyd Wright'

Berlin, Ernst Wasmuth A.G., 1910.

'In 1910-11 the distinguished German architectural publisher Ernst Wasmuth issued a pair of elegant portfolios covering the work of Frank Lloyd Wright to date. Among the most important architectural manifestoes of the twentieth century, the "Wasmuth folios" had enormous influence on the architects of the day, and have since become world famous'. Many copies of the portfolio were destroyed in a fire at Wright's Wisconsin home in August 1914, and many surviving plates suffered water damage. These plates come from the estate of Donald Leslie Johnson (1930-2022), architect, academic, architectural historian, and Frank Lloyd Wright scholar. The English-language titles come from 'Studies and Executed Buildings by Frank Lloyd Wright' (New York, Rizzoli, 1998). Reproductions of all these plates are to be found there, with the relevant number shown here in square brackets, preceded by the letter R.
