The French economic mission was touring South Australia when the armistice was signed on 11 November 1918. In his welcome at the beginning of this publication the Premier, Archibald Peake, presages this development. 'Australia rejoices that her citizen soldiers have been afforded the glorious privilege of assisting to vindicate the cause of Truth, Liberty, and Justice, and our men count it an imperishable honour that, in the task, they have been associated with the soldiers of Immortal France. We pray that ere the distinguished Mission returns to its beloved land, complete and decisive Victory will have been won by the Allies, and the Joy Bells of Peace will have rung throughout the world'.
