An autograph sentiment (in pencil) signed by Helen Keller ('With love | from her friend | Helen Keller | July 1st, 1948')
The short message was written in the autograph book of a young Sandra Waterman, daughter of Ewen Waterman, President of the South Australian Deaf and Dumb Society. Helen Keller visited South Australia with her travelling companion Polly Thompson from 23 June to 11 July 1948; a surprise party was held for her 68th birthday on 27 June. The relevant leaf (150 × 178 mm) has now been neatly excised from the autograph book; apart from light marginal discolouration, the item is in excellent condition.
