The signatures of Laurence Olivier and Vivien Leigh on individual leaves removed from an autograph album
Each leaf is approximately 150 × 177 mm; Leigh's signature is a very large example, set in the middle of the page; Olivier's signature is a large example, written near a top corner; both are in fine condition, ideal for mounting with a photograph or programme.
Sir Laurence Olivier (1907-1989) and Vivien Leigh (1913-1967) were married, and touring Australia and New Zealand with the Old Vic Theatre Company, in 1948 when these autographs were collected. The tour was a great success, but stressful and exhausting, and it put the marriage under considerable pressure. Extra-marital affairs, and Leigh's increasing physical and mental ill-health (tuberculosis and bi-polar disorder) eventually led the couple to divorce in 1960. [2 items].
