The first edition in book form; written 'about the year 1854 under the title of The Islanders (it) appeared first in serial form in a journal called The Illustrated Adelaide Post' (established in 1867 by the author). A work of fiction but 'Probably the most grimly realistic story written in South Australia in this period' (Depasquale).
