Large octavo, three volumes bound as two, 51 issues, each approximately 32 pages with several maps and numerous illustrations (most from photographs).

Gilt-lettered blind-stamped cloth; covers slightly rubbed and a little flecked; gilt on the spines a little rubbed; two corners and two edges slightly bumped; leading edge of second volume slightly marked; front inner hinge of first volume cracked but firm; endpapers slightly tanned; mild signs of handling; with the bookplate of William Godley in each volume; a very good set.

'The Black and White Budget' covered the participants and and developments of the 2nd Boer War, continuing until 30 May 1903. News, biographical details of heroes, officers and ordinary soldiers, with illustrations from the field and hundreds of portraits. Includes a Roll of the City of London Imperial Volunteers (pages 30-31 of Number 17, Volume II).
