Le Peintre-Graveur illustré (XIXe et XXe siècles). Tome second. Charles Meryon
Paris, Chez l'Auteur, 1907.
Folio, [197] pages with approximately 110 illustrations plus an original etching.
Later half cloth and marbled papered boards, retaining the original wrappers; gilt-lettered leather title-label on the spine; top edge speckled, others uncut; cloth a little fingermarked; head of the spine bumped; small patch of loss to the marbled paper on the rear cover; text paper lightly tanned; overall a very good copy.
A catalogue raisonné of the etchings of Charles Meryon, including his iconic images of Paris. The original etching, bound in as issued, is 'Bain-froid Chevier, dit de l'école' (1864, Delteil 44). It was printed for this edition from the original copper plate (in the possession of the family of Jean-Louis-Henry Le Secq) which was then offered to the Bibliothèque Nationale (see #44 in this catalogue). The catalogue describes 102 etchings by Meryon (and three others falsely attributed to him), with details of the known states, prices, and publication history for each print.
