A full-length portrait in military uniform, signed as Edward, Prince of Wales
A sepia-toned gelatin silver photograph (147 × 106 mm), mounted on card with the label of the photographer ('G.L. Marchant Photo') on the recto.
Mount slightly marked and a little worn at the extremities, with cracks to a bottom corner and in the top margin (just above the top edge of the photograph); later inscription on the verso; some small surface marks visible on the photograph in a raking light; overall in very good condition.
HRH the Prince of Wales spent a week in Adelaide in mid-July 1920, during a three-month visit to Australia. The photograph shows him standing in front of Parliament House, Adelaide. He has inscribed the bottom corner 'Sincerely Yours | Edward P.' George Lionel Marchant (1882-1958) ran a successful studio in Adelaide before relocating it to Melbourne in 1923.
