[S.A.] Children's Patriotic Times. The Official Paper of the Children's Patriotic Fund. Number 3, May to Number 16, July-August [1918] (a near-complete run of 12 numbers)

Adelaide, Children's Patriotic Fund, May 1918 to July 1919.

Octavo, 12 issues, ranging from 16 to 24 pages with a few illustrations (from photographs) each issue; the photographs often depict badly wounded soldiers, military dignitaries, or school children in individual or group portraits, occasionally performing some fund-raising activity.

Drop-title; Number 3 expertly conserved (albeit a little stained and creased); the last leaf of Number 15 a little torn and chipped with minor loss; minimal signs of use and age; overall an excellent run with the contemporary signature of a young Ella Aesche (IIIB) on all but one issue.

The run comprises Number 3 (May 1918), Number 5 (July 1918) to Number 11 (February 1919), and Number 13 (April 1919) to Number 16 (July-August 1919, the last number). The title of Number 3 is 'Children's Patriotic Times'; all other numbers in this run are called the 'S.A. Children's Patriotic Times'. The 'Thank You' note printed in the last issue aims to 'give some idea of the work carried on by the children of the State since the patriotic movement was reorganized in January 1918. In after years they should prove interesting little records, wherein many an old scholar may trace his work and name and school, in connection with the great movement whereby a helping hand was stretched out across the seas to the men fighting sickness, disease, and death at the great battle front'. The only complete run of this rare journal recorded on Trove is in the State Library of SA; only the first four issues have the shorter title. [12 items].
