Early mottled calf; spine gilt in compartments; sides boarded with gilt rolls; rebacked retaining the majority of the original backstrip (which is darkened); marbled edges; covers slightly rubbed; extremities a little worn; spines top edges darkened and a little marked; Volume 1 a little scuffed; scattered foxing to some plates; ownership stamp to each volume; a very good set.
Many of these churches were bombed by Germany during WW2, most were rebuilt in the years that followed.
