Yarns on Women Pioneers

Wallington, Surrey, The Religious Education Press, Ltd., June 1944 [first edition].

Octavo, 96 pages plus publisher's advertisements on the covers.

Pictorial wrappers lightly chipped at the ends of the spine; edges very lightly pitted; first and last pages a little offset; a very good copy.

All of these pioneers of 'important social reforms' were 'born in the nineteenth century, and most have long since passed to their reward. Two of them, however, are still with us. Sister Kenny, at the moment of writing, is actively engaged in combating infantile paralysis ... whilst Daisy Bates, now a very old woman, is passing the evening of her days amongst her beloved Australian aborigines'. A third pioneer has a more tenuous connection with Australia: Adelaide Mary Anderson ('The Factory Workers' Friend') was born in Melbourne in 1864, but returned to England with her parents when she was a child. Not in Trove (but copies of the third, fourth and fifth editions of 1949, 1954 and 1959 respectively, are recorded).
