London, Secker & Warburg, late August 1945 (reissue)/ 17 August 1945 (not May 1945 as printed in the book).
Octavo, [iv], 9-92 pages (Fenwick's collation: '[A]-F8; 48 leaves (18.5 × 12.2); [1-8]9-91[92-96]; [A]1 and F8 pasted down as front and back fixed endpapers').
Green cloth lettered in white on the spine; thin strip of cloth along the top edge of the boards (and a tiny sliver at the foot of the spine) a little sunned; small neat ownership signature at the head of the front flyleaf; a near-fine copy with the unclipped dustwrapper a little sunned on the spine, lightly marked on the front panel, and slightly rubbed, chipped and torn, with the loss of a small piece to the foot of the spine near the rear joint.
The contemporary small paper label of the original Mary Martin Bookshop (Adelaide) is on the front pastedown. The first edition carries the imprint date of May 1945 on the verso of the title page, but the actual date of publication was 17 August 1945, with the delay due to wartime paper shortages. There were 6500 copies of the first edition, and 10,000 of this reissue. Fenwick A10.b.
