Original black cloth, lettered in gilt on the front cover ('South-East | of | South Australia | -- | Cornelius Proud'); cloth a little flecked and lightly rubbed; flyleaves offset; text block sewn with fine thread through the inner margin, now pulled away a little at the openings after the title leaf and before the last leaf, with trifling damage to those two leaves; overall in excellent condition.

Inscribed and signed by the author on the flyleaf ('C. Proud | See notes'), and further signed with his initials in pencil. Provenance: an uncirculated copy from the collection of the author; by descent. This is the first copy we have handled since we commenced dealing in Adelaide in 1976. Ferguson 14454 ('Yellow paper wrappers, title repeated on front wrapper'; this cloth binding is not recorded).
