Brick-red cloth lettered in gilt on the spine and front cover; cloth slightly marked, flecked and sunned on the spine, with minimal loss of cloth near the foot of the rear joint; endpapers and first and last pages a little offset; a very good copy (internally excellent) with an early ownership signature on the front flyleaf.

The book was extremely popular, and print runs must have been large; the 'Australian Dictionary of Biography' entry on Gunn states that by 1945, 320,000 copies had been sold.
